OUR COMMITMENT TO NEW WORK

The Victory Theatre Center has been developing new plays for over four decades. We opened in 1980 with the world premiere of Beth Henley’s The Miss Firecracker Contest — written while Henley was a student in our acting studio — and that commitment to original work has never wavered.

For decades, we have worked directly with playwrights to dramaturge, workshop, and produce new material. We select scripts through literary agent submissions and referrals, refine them through staged readings and workshops, and support the playwright’s vision from page to production.

We are one of only a few theatres in Los Angeles dedicated solely to producing original, unproduced work. That is not a marketing claim — it is the founding principle of this theatre.

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT

Read everything on this page carefully before filling out the form.

The volume of submitted scripts is high. Every script is read by two readers and evaluated before being passed to the Artistic Director for a final decision. This takes time. Please be assured your work will be read.

Do not reach out to inquire about the status of your submission. If the Victory decides to move forward with your script, we will contact you.

AI Policy: We do not consider AI-generated scripts and reserve the right to process submissions through AI detection software. Submitting AI-generated work — in whole or in part — will result in permanent disqualification.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We produce new, unproduced plays. We are particularly interested in work that is current, relevant, and thought-provoking — plays that give audiences something they couldn’t find anywhere else.

Practical considerations matter. When evaluating scripts, our readers assess theatrical and production feasibility alongside the quality of the writing.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submissions are accepted through our online form only. Mail submissions are no longer accepted.

The form will ask you about yourself, your play, and your production vision. You will also be asked to attach the best 10 pages of your script as a PDF. Do not submit your full script at this stage.

A short video introduction (2 minutes maximum) about who you are and the impact you hope your play will have is strongly encouraged.

Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
